I love being by or on the water, whether it be a coastal wilderness or the many miles of canals that meander across the UK. Many holidays are spent cruising the canal network enjoying the ever changing landscape and the diverse wildlife that call these waterways home.

Canal Architecture
For me, there is something about canal architecture, and particularly locks, that lends itself to black and white photography.
Lock numbers were one of the traditional navigational aids for the boatman The lock gear still manually operated by windlass The Cill marker is ignored by the boater at their peril Many of the locks on the network leak to some degree – this one seems to do so more than most!
Light and Reflections
The stillness of the canal waters produces some stunning reflections particularly in Autumn light. The low setting sun also lends itself to beautiful imagery over the water.
